Study Groups

At ASCC we value religious education and believe that learning happens best through honest inquiry and open discussions.  There are plenty of folks ready to tell you what you should and shouldn't believe.  We respectfully disagree.  Our study groups are a place where we ask questions and help one another to live and grow in faith.

Ecumenical Studies

We offer more than just run-of-the-mill Bible studies.  In fact we don't offer run-of-the-mill anything at all.  Our classes focus on Jesus' parables, Moses, the Old and New Testaments, Liberal and Conservative Christianity, The Social Gospel, What Do You Believe, The Early Church, Christian History, Christian Literature, Stress and Healing, Prayer and Medication, Narnia and Middle Earth and more.

We look at Christianity from a wide variety of angles and through a large number of different lenses, with the goal of answering the overarching question: what does it mean for you to be a Christian and what role does your faith play in your life?

Interfaith Dialogs

Some people are scared of interfaith inquiries.  I once had a genuinely worried congregant ask me what I would do if we talked about Buddhism and everyone suddenly converted to it.   That never happened, of course.  In stead she found what most people find, that studying other faiths both enhances and strengthens your understanding of your own.

Dialogs almost always involve talks led by leaders of the world's great faiths.  Other Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Native Americans, Neo-Pagans, Buddhists, Baha'i, Sikhs, Jains, Atheists and more have all come and spoken about their beliefs in the past and we have thoroughly enjoyed their contributions.
